Education & Research

Yeovil Innovation Centre is committed to working with local educational establishments, their staff, governors and pupils to develop projects and programmes to inspire the workforce of tomorrow.

We will help raise awareness of opportunities for young people and engage them within our modern, creative, vibrant workplace environment at Yeovil Innovation Centre.

We are committed to championing our residential business community and showcasing employment opportunities in our specialist areas of high tech, creative, digital, aerospace, pharmaceutical and professional services. We need to showcase pathways for our local growing talent highlighting roles, careers and local businesses accessible to young people across South Somerset.

An objective of the Yeovil Innovation Centre is to establish positive links with our academic communities so that we can learn from each other and raise awareness of these opportunities for young people. Our focus is on all levels of education from primary and secondary to our local colleges and university centres.

School inset days and exam/teaching space

Yeovil Innovation Centre (YIC) encourages schools to host Inset days here free of charge, so teachers can explore workplace opportunities for their pupils.

As part of our commitment to engaging with education in the South Somerset area, we want to work with our local schools to showcase the world of innovation, business incubation and the environment that inspires them.

By using the space for inset days or examinations we will introduce both students and their teachers to the current world of work (especially within tech, digital, creative and aerospace), showing them what it looks like and the reality of current pathways into work. An area apart from work experience that both industry and education is currently missing.

School inset days

It’s our objective to offer as many teachers as possible this opportunity – if we can inspire the inspirers, everyone wins!

We are offering 10 days of room hire free of charge, for Schools from the region to host Inset or training days here. Staff will be offered a tour of both the Yeovil Innovation Centres by staff experienced in the sector.

We are keen to meet and support teachers and educators and encourage staff and Governors to get in touch

We can also support with catering on the day.

Somerset Talent Academy Programme

The Somerset Talent Academy programme is designed to enable young people aged 14-16 to gain an understanding of different key Somerset employment sectors through a series of visits and workshops with a wide range of both local and regional employers. A series of four visits per year are undertaken by students from local schools with the aim of building up an understanding of career routes, job options and the types of practical work involved within various industry sectors.  Yeovil Innovation Centre in conjunction with the South Somerset 14-19 partnership are planning a digital Talent Academy where students will learn from residents all about the different roles digital can play in the workplace.
